Must Reads
Reading Takes you places
As you know it is important for your child to read for pleasure. Research has shown, time and again, that those pupils who read regularly for pleasure consistently perform better academically than those who don’t. Not only does free reading improve reading achievement, but it builds a rich and varied vocabulary, increases knowledge and reading … takes you places! Children can travel the world and be introduced to new places through turning the pages in a book.
Each year group has a reading ‘must reads’ sheet in their classroom. On the sheet are recommended must reads before leaving primary school. We are challenging the children to read as many books as they can. When they read one of the books, they will tick this off on their sheet. As children fill their sheet, they will receive certificates and rewards!
Children can find these books in their class library, or if you have any of the recommended must reads at home, please encourage your child to read these or why not visit your local library. Remember, children who read more, will be more successful in their learning journey.
“If you are going to get anywhere in life, you have to read a lot of books.” Roald Dahl.
