The Teaching of English

Our learners develop as confident communicators, writers and fluent readers. We develop learners who are able to speak clearly, convey their ideas fluently and confidently. The development of these key skills directly impact on our learners motivation to learn, well-being and self-esteem.

At Park Hall Academy, reading is at the heart of all we do. We strongly believe that reading is the 'Key To All Learning'. Our first curriculum 'Big Idea' is 'Every Child A Reader, No Exception!' As our learners journey begins, our little people develop their phonological awareness through engagement in our systematic, synthetic phonics programme (FFT- Success For All Phonics). In the next chapters of their journey, learners progress from 'learning to read' to 'reading to learn' enhancing their subject knowledge.

Learners encounter a range of engaging and stimulating texts which instil a love of reading, a passion for adventure and the confidence to explore and develop their own imagination. Learners will be fully immersed in a language rich curriculum, developing their specific, specialist vocabulary across all subject disciplines. All members of the Park Hall family share a passion for reading who read with 'pace, passion, pause, pitch, punctuation and power'. As we immerse learners in high quality texts, we develop readers to be future leaders.

Our engaging, high quality english curriculum, ignites our writers love of communicating and expressing their ideas in a variety of contexts. As a result, they are able to articulate this in a clear and accurate form of writing. Our writers journey begins through, 'Talk For Writing,' and expert writers develop stamina, writing independently for a range of audiences across a range of genres. Our writers apply their skills including transcription and composition and make adventurous vocabulary choices to engage their audience.

We enable our learners to become capable readers, writers, spellers and speakers who can transfer these skills across the curriculum and are prepared for the next stage in their learning journey.
